Haji Taniguchi was born in Tokyo in 1960. After graduating from Belmont University, Nashville TN, with a BA in Commercial Music, he entered the music business with Sony Music Publishing Japan in 1986. Since joining Avex Group in 1994, he has been responsible for international and intellectual property strategies, among other things. He is currently President of Avex Music Publishing Inc., Chairman of the Music Publishers Association of Japan (MPAJ) and Vice-Chairman of Foundation for Promotion of Music Industry and Culture (PROMIC).
Avex Group
Avex Group was established in 1988 as a small independant record label, which soon started to grow into a total entertainment enterprise, with music entertainment, visual entertainment, artists management, live promotion, etc all within the group. Avex Music Publishing Inc. was established in April 2010 to enforce the group's intellectual properties strategy.
MPAJ
Prior to founding a-Peer Ed worked and consulted with leading Asian executives in the music and media industries. This work includes his roles as:
• Executive Assistant to the President of EMI Taiwan in charge of the A&R division. Ed developed their business management system for merging and acquiring international record labels.
• Chief Producer and A&R for major record labels and indie clients with prominent international acts that include: James Galway/BMG, Yo Yo Ma/Sony, Tracy Huang/Universal, Ken Kuo/Jingo, ABC Bakery (children learning program)/TVBS.
• International Manager for ARC International Music in Taiwan. Ed successfully licensed BBC catalogues for the Asian market.
Ed is currently the Chairman of the Reform Committee for the Taiwan Golden Melody Award (equivalent to the Grammy Awards) and a long time member of the Judges Panel.
